Info, schedules and updates for the Springfield HS Color Guards of Springfield PA.
Springfield has two guard seasons each year, Outdoor Marching Band Guard and Indoor Competitive Guard. They are separate groups with separate kids and schedules. You can choose to join one without doing the other, or you can do both!
Outdoor Marching Band Guard:
Is apart of the Springfield Marching Band, following the band's practice and performance schedule.
Will learn the basics of color guard including Flag, Rifle and Sabre spinning, marching, movement and dance, as well as other specialty equipment as needed, such as ribbons, swing-flags, hoops, pom-poms, etc.
Performs with the band at parades, local band shows, and all Springfield HS football games.
Does not compete.
Is an entry-level group, no experience is needed to join.
Runs from Mid-August to mid November (or whenever the SHS football season ends)
Indoor Competitive Guard:
Is a separate group, following it's own schedule and timeline.
Will learn both basic and advanced color guard technique, with a focus on Flag, Rifle, Sabre and Dance.
Has a slightly more rigorous schedule and higher performance expectations than outdoor guard.
Practices and performs indoors.
Competes with other local guards at showcases held at local high schools.
Is an entry level group, no experience is needed to join, but certain positions in the show will require an audition.
Runs from November to April, with some pre-season practices in September and October (will not overlap marching band)
